I was eager to try this place because the ambiance intrigued me…probably even more than the menu. Sometimes after a long work week, you just need to be surrounded by what I call “grandeur and good company.” And with its glamorous decor inspired by areas of Spain, Indonesia and even old Hollywood, Beatnik in West Town fits the bill.
Serving creative and colorful dishes from Beet Hummus with blue cheese and roasted pepitas to Pork Cheek Fried Rice with seasonal veggies and duck egg, this place allows its patrons to step out of their comfort zones and travel the world without leaving the dinner table. For those of you who may have a less adventurous palette, I recommend the Angus “Beatnik Burger” served with curry pickles, vermouth glazed onions, mustard aioli and roasted potatoes. AWESOME! Finally, served in a warm skillet with chai spices, cream cheese frosting and sticky sauce, the cinnamon roll was a perfectly decadent way to end our experience.
The drinks are fun and creative (because no “hipster” spot is complete without an alcoholic slushie machine)! The frozen “Grape Smuggler” made with cognac, green grapes, elderflower and lemon is highly recommended. Two of these are guaranteed to put you exactly where you need to be! LOL! You can also enjoy wine by-the-glass ranging from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to more organic choices from Sicily and Serbia.
Whether you decide to come for brunch, dinner or to simply have a nightcap at the bar with a few small bites, I would say that this is the perfect spot to impress a date or to have a fun night out with friends. The aesthetic is amazing and the menu has a little something for everyone.
