Barbados:
Here’s Where you Need to Be

Ahhhh…Barbados! The perfect place for fun, sun and PLENTY of rum! Recently celebrating its 50th anniversary as an independent nation, the small Caribbean island just east of St. Lucia sets itself apart with its rich history and beautiful people.

Here are 5 reasons why Barbados should be your next travel destination:

1.) All-inclusive Resorts

Barbados is a great all-inclusive resort destination. We booked our stay at Sugar Bay Barbados (located in the southern parish of Christ Church) because we wanted to be close to the Oistins fish fry. (More about that later). The resort is beautifully renovated, sits right on the beach and boasts four on-site restaurants, two pools and a spa. It is also located just 10 minutes from Bridgetown (the capital), which makes sightseeing easy. You can find the most affordable rates December- April during the off season.

2.) Crop Over Festival

This yearly six-week festival celebrates the ending of the sugar cane harvest and attracts visitors from all over the world. It showcases variations of Barbadian, African and Western culture through parades, music, costumes, dance and art. You’re also bound to have a celebrity sighting or two.

3.) Oistins

Looking for dominoes, dancing and some damn good food? Then you don’t wanna miss Oistins Friday and Saturday night fish fry. It feels like a family reunion (only larger). Make sure you eat at George’s. The locals say the food there is the best. And judging by the extremely long lines and crowded tables, I could tell that they were telling the truth!

4.) Jammin Catamaran Cruise

A party on the water unlike any other, this is a cruise you want to book with the concierge as soon as you check into your resort (as it tends to sell out quickly). The cruise gives visitors a chance to enjoy great music, food, drinks and swimming with the turtles.

5.) Blue Waters and Beautiful Beaches

Never in all of my days have I seen water so beautiful! Barbados waters are perfect for radical water sports like fly boarding and water skiing. Or if you’re looking to just relax and unwind, laying out in a hammock on one of the many sandy beaches is a sure fire way to take the stress away. Don’t forget the Mount Gay Rum!

Enjoy!
