A Love Letter to New Orleans

This place has the ability to change you (for the better) if you let it. Some come to visit and never leave. Many leave but always come back. Be careful. There’s magic in these streets. Beyond the “voodoo/hoodoo” this place is known for. I went and didn’t return the same. And for that, New Orleans I am thankful.

Thank you for providing nourishment for my body and soul. The Café Du Monde vs. Café Beignet battles in my belly. The most tender oysters I’ve had in all of my days. Seeing the look on my friends’ face when she tasted crawfish for the first time. The praline bacon (YES! PRALINE BACONNNNN) and pepper jelly at Elizabeth’s. And the flaky crust on the peach cobbler at B.B. Kings that took me back to my grandparent’s kitchen ALL blessed me beyond words.

Thank you for surrounding me with love. New Orleans natives are probably the ONLY people in the world (other than family) who can get away with calling me “baby”. Every time they say it, they make you feel like you share a bloodline. The romantic French-inspired streets and balconies gave me fuzzy feelings, made me want to find a handsome man, slow dance and drink wine.

Thank you for the spiritual recharge. For the tarot card reading that reminded me to step out on faith and follow my dreams. For allowing me to finally hear the voice of my grandmother (after feeling sad because I believed that she was no longer with me). For my ancestors at the Whitney Plantation who were beaten, raped, hung and beheaded so that I could become their wildest dreams. For the live bands on Bourbon Street that serenaded me. This city has taught me that nothing happens by accident. Everything is in divine order. Inspiration can happen anywhere if you listen to your heart. And it confirmed that I have the ability to manifest anything that I want as long as I believe in my heart that I deserve it.

New Orleans, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
